Manager Retail Planning and Allocation

This role is responsible for overall management of Retail operations. Working directly with their counter parts in Editorial, Finance, Production and Sales, the Retail Operations Manager is responsible for; Inventory management, Production coordination, Logistics, and adherence to customer requirements across sales channels.

Specific Duties:

  • Work with the Editorial Sales, Finance, and Production teams to evaluate sales opportunities. Includes evaluation of production schedule requirements, development of cost estimates, operational risk assessment, and resource availability. Develop recommendations and suggestions on how to enhance the business opportunity as appropriate. 
  • Manage product inventory in a manner that ensures both cost effectiveness and adherence to customer requirements. Includes single and multi-channel sales activity forecasting, inventory risk management and achievement of inventory related key business success targets. Provide ongoing oversight of inventory activity across all sales channels; develop inventory planning models for key titles as well as promotions and planograms. 
  • Working with Editorial and Sales teams, assist in development of Production and Project schedules designed to ensure cost effective management of the business activity and compliance with customer requirements. Work with a cross-functional, cross-location team to coordinate all aspects of the Retail supply chain. Proactively identify areas of risk and develop approaches to reduce the risk. Develop contingency plans as appropriate for all operational related activity. 
  • Working with peers in Editorial and Sales, plan and manage Retail business logistics activity. Includes coordination of all component and finished goods product movement both domestically and internationally. 
  • Responsibility for analysis and reporting of all operational related costs. Role has direct responsibility for actively managing operational related costs in a manner that ensures the business achieves its financial targets. Work with corporate finance group to ensure financial reporting meets business needs. 
  • Manage a 3rd party distribution partner. Ensure costs are in line with expectations and that service levels and end customer requirements are met. 
  • Work with product procurement team to drive out costs while ensuring all business requirements are met within the product manufacturing and sourcing area. Assist procurement teams in evaluation of domestic, near-shore and offshore manufacturing and sourcing opportunities. 
  • Working with Editorial, Sales and IT, ensure business related support systems are meeting business requirements. Participate in review of alternate systems and approaches to reduce business complexity and costs.

Sales Representative- Northern NJ

The Sales Representative is responsible for selling Zaner-Bloser programs to assigned territories within the PreK-8 education market. The sales representative is required to meet sales goals and maintain an efficient budget for the territory. The position necessitates building strong relationships with educators to ensure successful product selling, as well as, maintaining present customers and expanding sales with the established customer base. Must periodically attend training/workshop sessions and sales meeting provided by the company.

Core Responsibilities:

• Develop knowledge of Zaner-Bloser products and be able to match those products to the needs of the customer.

• Make regular sales calls to district offices, schools and other agencies for Zaner-Bloser products. This involves extensive travel, usually by car, within a designated territory determined by management.

• Maintain accurate records regarding district and school contacts in Saleslogix.

• Maintain accurate records regarding sales opportunities in Saleslogix.

• Complete and forward all sales expense records to the company promptly.

• Maintain a consistent sales record of goal achievement year to year as well as a per student penetration deemed acceptable to the company.

• Grow the customer base.

• Respond promptly to requests from the home office.

• Attend training/workshop sessions as well as sales meetings as determined by management.

• Attend state and local conferences as determined by sales rep and manager.

• Attend National Conferences when assigned.

• Oversee the servicing of customers

• Manage and stay within the travel and expense, sample and per diem budgets assigned to sales representatives by management.

Material Handler

Material Handler

This position is responsible for accurately picking, packing and shipping of customer orders. In addition, this position will operate powered equipment to ensure accurate retrieval and fulfillment of materials throughout the distribution warehouse.

Core Responsibilities:

• Fully operate a handheld Radio Frequency (RF) device.

• Operate manifest systems to ship customer orders.

• Follow established shipping processes and procedures to ensure timely delivery to the customer.

• Safely load and unload the outbound and inbound trailers.

• Process customer returns and safely return materials to the appropriate stock location.

• Assemble materials into product kits, as directed.

• Responsible for restocking active pick locations with materials.

• Operates powered equipment on an intermittent basis, to move materials throughout the distribution warehouse (e.g. replenishment, dock put-aways, work order pulls, etc.).

• Follow established process and procedure to accurately receive inbound inventory.

• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.

The Market Manager, Billing and Renewals role is responsible for initiating and driving the improved performance of Magazine renewal efforts at the product and source levels. This role works closely with the Marketing, e-Commerce, Operations, Creative, and IT teams, as well as third party business partners, to accomplish this objective. This role will help to develop, initiate and drive strategic efforts designed to improve retention performance globally, as well as provide support for specific campaign objectives driven by Marketing. These responsibilities include management of the method and number of contacts, messaging, and the total visual presentation, and ensuring an optimal experience for our customers. Working with the above cross-functional team, the Market Manager will develop strategic plans to drive improved performance of Collections efforts at the business model, product and source levels and will be responsible for the successful execution of the plan.

The Market Manager, Billing and Renewals is responsible for providing solutions to accomplish Highlights’ strategic and financial goals. These solutions may be provided by multiple sources, including internal resources and a variety of third party business partners. The Market Manager is responsible for the ongoing relationship with Highlights’ third party Collections service providers, including communication of Highlights’ strategic direction and business needs. This position manages a team responsible for all Billing and Renewal operations activities, at all locations, including but not limited to, campaign management, research, cost management, quality assurance, and compliance and conformance to legal regulations and provider service levels.

The Program Planner reports to the Content Director and is responsible for executing the development of high quality, engaging program content for SDE’s public events as assigned and directed by the Content Director.    The Program Planner collaborates with others within the Event & Product department and with those in other functional areas (sales, marketing, etc.) to produce timely, relevant events within budgetary guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Execution

• Work on the successful creation of educational professional development conferences and seminars that are on-time and on-budget.

• Conduct market and competitive research.

• Collaborates with Sales, Marketing and Operations departments to contribute to events overall success.

• Source, recruit and work with both in-house and outside content area experts (presenters).

• Track and measure programs/products success to P&L and make recommendations for moving forward.

Operational Processes

• Responsible for detailing assigned events including presenter AV needs, handouts, session information, travel etc.

• Collect and enter all data in designated databases, including program specifics, presenters’ information, session write-ups, etc.

• Work with Operations team to ensure that all presenters’ communications & program processes are executed correctly and on-time.

• Resolve presenter issues including cancelations and changes.

Other

• Strengthen relationships with outside consultants through effective communications.

• Maintain knowledge on the current trends in education.

For thirty years, the Highlights Foundation has been fulfilling its mission of improving the quality of children’s literature by helping authors and illustrators hone their craft. The Foundation holds workshops and retreats at our conference center in the beautiful Pocono Mountains. This property is the former home of the Founders of Highlights for Children, and is located near the Highlights office in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.

Each year, we offer more than three dozen workshops covering a wide range of topics and offering encouragement for both beginning and published authors and illustrators. Workshops are led by children’s publishing professionals: editors, authors, art directors, publishers, agents, academics and others who are there to help participants realize their creative goals.

The Highlights Foundation currently seeks several Foundation Interns with strong interests in marketing, hospitality, and/or culinary skills. These are a short-term roles based in Honesdale and at Boyds Mills where the workshops are held.
